Gracefully Glitching

Fog & Forge

A short-session chronic illness RPG

Some days the fog rolls in and the spoons run short. Tend the forge anyway — a little at a time, on your own terms.

Fog & Forge is free and always will be. If it helped, you can support the studio ☕.

How to play Fog & Forge

You keep a forge in Emberhollow, a town the fog never quite leaves. Each day is one short session — a few quiet minutes. Play at whatever pace your body allows. There is no timer, and there is no way to lose.

🥄 Spoons are your energy

Every morning you wake with a number of spoons — borrowed from spoon theory, the way many people with chronic illness describe a limited, daily supply of energy. Each action costs spoons. When they run low, the day ends.

  • A normal day is about 5 spoons.
  • A clear, thin-fog morning might give you 7–8.
  • A heavy-fog day might give only 3. That's not failure — that's the weather.
  • Your count varies on purpose. You can't grind your way past a hard day; you pace through it.
  • Spoons shift, too. Some mornings you wake with more or less than expected, and the odd day brings a flare or a second wind out of nowhere. That sporadic swing is the truth of it — never a thing you did wrong.

🔨 What you do each day

  • ⛏️ Gather Ore (2🥄) — reliable ore, sometimes an ember.
  • 🕯️ Tend the Hearth (1🥄) — restores calm.
  • 🌫️ Venture into the Fog (4🥄) — the richest action: embers, one-time discoveries (a warm spring, a forgotten cache), glimpses of fog-creatures, and the neighbours you'll only meet out there. The fog may thicken in return.
  • 📖 Reflect (1🥄) — grows resilience and unlocks journal entries.
  • 🌙 Rest (free) — ends the day gently. Resting early is a skill, not a loss — it gives a little energy back tomorrow.

🔥 The Forge & the Wards

Spend ore, ember, and calm (and 3 spoons) to forge Wards. Each Ward is a small, permanent win: it might raise your worst-day floor, slow the fog, or make resting recover more. None of them cure the fog — they make it easier to live with, and each one pushes the fog back the moment it's forged.

🕊️ Where it's all going

The embers you gather (look for the tracker on the left) carry the story forward across five chapters, from The Morning the Fog Stayed to The Clearing. You won't beat the fog. You'll build something good inside it.

🌙 Full Spoonie Mode (optional)

In Accessibility & comfort you can switch on Full Spoonie Mode: one in-game day per real day. You genuinely can't push ahead — the forge waits for you, the way a body makes you wait. It's the truest way to play, and it's entirely your choice; turn it on or off whenever you need.
